The Best Affordable Eco-friendly Cleaners You'll Love

As the temperature rises, we begin planning to "spring clean". For many of us, the environment weighs on our choices for cleaning and products. To help put your mind at ease, we've collected a list of our favorite non-toxic, eco-friendly green cleaning products that will have your home ready for spring in no time!

  1. Vinegar - this oldie but goodie is inexpensive and has a variety of uses in the body and outside, making it our most favorite choice for household cleaners. Combine it with baking soda or salt and you have a powerful cleaning potion, and scrubber, to handle almost any cleaning job in the house, garage or car. Under $2.00 for 64oz jugs at most stores. Baking soda is just under $.50 at Aldi.

  2. Bon Ami Powder Cleanser - Trusted since 1886 to clean without scratching, this multi-purpose cleaner is nonabrasive and great on granite, ceramic tiles, chrome, porcelain, stainless steel, copper, cooktops & brass. While the company has discontinued the product [as far as we can tell] it is still available on Amazon. It has long been considered the best natural cleaner as well as the best value. 14oz 2-pack $8.00.

  3. Ecos - The name says it all. Ecos is a company with several eco-friendly products [we use the laundry detergent and it smells great!] for home, baby, pet and more. We recommend the All-purpose Cleaner - Orange which leaves a wonderful fresh citrus scent throughout the home especially when coupled with the Furniture Polish + Cleaner - Orange. Starts at $3.41 for 22 oz All-purpose cleaner.

  4. Eco-Me - These products are plant-based ingredients, BPA-free, made in the USA, with post-consumer recycled plastic, when possible. And they, too, have wonderful fresh scents that will make you want to open the windows and welcome spring. Tub & Tile Cleaner - Lemon, floor, glass, granite & marble and toilet cleaners come in lemon and mint. As well as the scrubs and all purpose cleaners. $5.99 for 32 oz and up.

  5. Seventh Generation - To say this company puts their money where their mouth is, may be an understatement. This Vermont-based company really understands the environment and is actively committed to climate policies and partnerships that will make a difference. Just another reason to feel good about their products. Disinfectant Spray - Lavender Vanilla and Thyme Scent is $5.99 at Target.

  6. Clorox Compostable Cleaning Wipes - A surpriser, right? We know. The Clorox Compostable Cleaning Wipes are made from plant fibers that are compostable in municipal facilities. Brilliant. They can clean hard surfaces like sealed wood, sealed granite and stainless steel. The wipes come in three scents that meet the Safer Choice Standard: Free & Clear, Simply Lemon and Original Fresh. They are currently just $4.99 at Walgreens.

  7. Boulder Clean Toilet Bowl Cleaner - This toilet bowl cleaner is naturally-powered by plant extracts to remove stubborn stains and deodorizes as it cleans. It’s thick, so it clings to the surface for effective cleaning. Safe for septic tanks and waterways. It is recommended to use a pumice stone for tough toilet bowl rings. $4.79 at 1908Brands.com and less at other local stores.

  8. Simple Green - This one is always on the list when stopping by the home store. You might not think it but this powerful cleaner and degreaser is EPA Safer Choice Certified, designed for effective and environmentally safer use on counters, carpet, floors, fabric, equipment, vehicles and more. Concentrated formula provides up to 30x the cleaning value. Meaning when you dilute it with water, it really lasts! $3.97 at Menard's.
